Level - Confident Beginners

10.30-4.30pm

Looking for your next fun technique to master? Or maybe you’re in the quilting doldrums this spring and need something to kickstart your quilting mojo? Well, for Marion, Logarythms is always her go-to technique. Our Logarhythms workshop is a modern take on the traditional Log Cabin technique. It’s looks impressive, (but sshhh, it’s easy to sew. This means you can concentrate on having fun with colour and fabric.

The technique works in both traditional or modern patterns, plus batiks and is ideal for sewing in plain or plainish fabrics. (Two of the quilts shown here are more than 20 years old, but still look very contemporary because of the fabrics used). You can use your sewn blocks for a cushion, bed runner, or the start of a quilt. The choice is yours, as you’ll complete your sewing at home.

This is an ideal skill builder technique for confident beginners. Machine sewn.

Materials and equipment required:

Sewing Machine. Don’t forget the 1/4-in or standard straight sewing foot, pedal, lead and instruction booklet. Alternatively you can hire a machine subject to availability (just add to your basket with your booking)

Rotary equipment - mat (at least A3 in size), ruler (at least 12-in long) and rotary cutter with a sharp blade

Square ruler (a 9-1/2-in square is a very useful size), if not you can work with template plastic, which you can preorder

Long or fat quarters in at least 8 different fabrics. You can choose all plains, or plainish fabrics such as Linen Texture, Cottage Cloth or Grunge, batiks or more conventional prints in any colours. Note - if working with patterns, you’ll need contrasting colours / print scales, or 4 of your fabrics could be plains

Scraps of fabric (at least 3x3-in) for the centre squares

100% cotton thread in a coordinating colour or neutral

Basic sewing kit - fabric / thread scissors, pins, stitch ripper

Refreshments are provided with a break at lunchtime. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch, or there are many coffee shops, tea rooms and delis in the high street.

It’s advisable to sort out your materials beforehand to make best use of the workshop time. However, if there’s anything you’re missing, you can buy supplies in store during the day.

If you have any questions, please look at our FAQs or phone us on 01634 838880 before booking. Please note we do not send out reminders to students before the workshop as all the materials information is here. For details of local car parks, please refer to the Visit Us page.
