At Hometown we’re very partial to feedsack style prints! These naive florals and fun novelty prints were introduced during the Great Depression when money was scarce and stitchers were very frugal. The fabrics were a joyful counterpoint to the tough times. True to their name, patterns were printed onto cotton animal feedsacks and cotton flour bags. The empty bags were carefully unpicked and the fabrics reused for quilts and dressmaking. Many designers today still take inspiration from these depression-era fabrics, so we can continue to enjoy these jolly, uncomplicated prints.
Perfect for dressmaking, block or scrappy patchwork, such as all the Jen Kingwell quilts, they’d also be wonderful for English Paper Piecing (EPP) because of the variety of prints. We always have a at least one fat quarter bundle available online, usually with more options instore. Plus the ultimate for feedback fans is our fat eighth bundle containing 16 different patterns. 100% cotton, 112cm / 42in wide, 100% quality cotton
These fabrics are priced and sold by the quarter metre (equivalent price is £15 - £16.00/m depending on the design). We’ll automatically cut a long quarter (25x112cm), but if you’d prefer a fat quarter (50x56cm), just mark the box when prompted.
Larger quantities are always cut as a a continuous length, so for 1 metre, order a quantity of 4; for 1.5 metres, order 6; for 2 metres, order 8 and so on.
